Its compact mountain range is located on the borders of Thessaly with Macedonia, a series of high peaks that groove deep ravines, around which extends an area of great biodiversity.
It was declared in 1938 as the first National Park of Greece under protection. Suitable for walks and ascents by hikers, but also extreme sports such as mountain bike, canyoning, paracliding, while up to Prionia (1,100 meters) is accessible by car.

PLATAMON CASTLE
Platamona’s Castle is a castle of the Frankish Empire, built on the site of a fortified city of the Middle Byzantine period, southeast of Olympus, in a strategic position. It is the best preserved fortress in north-central Greece, with the imposing tower dominating the center.
The spectacular view from the ramparts is unique, as one can gaze at the Aegean Sea but also at the magnificent sunset on Mount Olympus.
